Your starting prompt.
Compare [prior month] with [current month or matched month-to-date] for [Google Cloud project] using [permitted billing export]. State timezone, currency, credits, tax policy and export freshness. Show project, service and SKU contributions that reconcile to the total change. Use matched elapsed windows for a partial month, keep forecasts separate from billed costs and identify late corrections or missing history. Do not change cloud resources.
Copy this starting point, then replace the placeholders with your own inputs.
Method and review
Keep the assumptions visible.
Normalize suppliers, units, currencies and purchasing periods. Separate recurring commitments, one-off purchases and contract assumptions before proposing savings.
For this task, check
An existing billing export and the required Google Cloud IAM permissions; native Connection availability depends on deployment setup. Standard export does not establish exact resource attribution.
Before you begin
- Permitted inputs covering the listed reporting windows
- Review the Google Cloud setup and supported export coverage
- Review live Connection and Action availability before enabling recurring work
Work with permitted files or queryable data. Verify the result against the original records.
Synthetic illustrative example
See the method in practice.
Synthetic input. Illustrative output checked locally; this is not a live Proforma run or customer result. Three invented services share the same full-month USD net-cost basis and complete sample coverage.
These invented records explain the method. They are not a recorded Proforma run.
| Service | Prior net USD | Current net USD |
|---|---|---|
| Compute Engine | 40 | 100 |
| Cloud Run | 30 | 32 |
| Cloud SQL | 20 | 20 |
| Service | Change USD | Share of net increase |
|---|---|---|
| Compute Engine | 60 | 96.77% |
| Cloud Run | 2 | 3.23% |
| Cloud SQL | 0 | 0% |
Method
For the same period basis, subtract prior net cost from current net cost by service. The totals rise from USD 90 to USD 152, so service changes sum to USD 62. Credits are already included in this invented net-cost input; real analysis preserves them separately.
What the result tells you
Compute Engine explains USD 60 of the USD 62 increase in this sample. This is service attribution, not proof that any VM is unnecessary or evidence of realized savings. Real exports may be delayed or corrected.
