Your starting prompt.

Reconcile our invoices against bank receipts for [period]. Match exact invoice references first, then suggest customer, amount and date matches within [tolerance]. Separate partial payments, overpayments and unmatched items. Produce a reconciliation table and totals by currency, with the matching reason on every row. Keep suggested matches distinct from confirmed matches and show the original record IDs.

Copy this starting point, then replace the placeholders with your own inputs.

Method and review

Keep the assumptions visible.

Agree on identifiers, currency, periods and account mappings before comparing totals. Keep unmatched records and timing differences visible instead of forcing a match.

For this task, check

I-103$0$800Candidate; review required: R-12

Method

Match invoice reference, customer and currency before summing receipts. Outstanding = invoice amount − exact matched receipts. R-12 fits two invoices and stays unallocated; it is not counted twice or treated as confirmed payment.

What the result tells you

I-101 has $400 outstanding after a partial payment. Both Acme invoices require review of R-12. The $2,000 outstanding invoice total includes unresolved allocation; one unallocated $800 receipt remains outside it.
